Default Overheating cbr600f 1999

Thanks for helping if possible. Now have read many post from the over heating problems seems to be common with it over heating in traffic.. I have replace the fan , coolant all good seems to flow and also replaced the thermostat as thought it could ofbeen that for it not to turn on the fan .. Like the fan does come on but at the stage it is red hot like right up the top of temp guage .. theres is no oil in coolant although it has done 40k and in need of major service time still a good bike well runs sweet only owned it 12mths and had this problem arise over last summer but it seem to be doing it now in winter .. maybe i just have to keep moving through the traffic lane split all the way hehe.. also it does cool down quite sharply when moving again but how or how much till u cook the motor? thanx Dean

Wow, same problem here. Someone had suggested that it was the cam chain? when the engine heats up it throws the timing off ever so slightly and causes a stall. I'm in Washington State and even on the overcast 50 degree (f) day it will do it. What gives!?

Your fan should come on well before it gets red hot.... mine comes on maybe mid way.. .my bike never gets above slightly above half on the gauge... except for one time coming home from Bear Mt... about an hour and a half into the ride home we hit crazy traffic coming into the Bronx... stop and go for like 15 minutes in 95^ heat.. got to 3/4 on the gauge... didnt like that one bit..

Have you checked on your temp sensor on your radiator?

You could always install a manual switch to run at a stand still.

this is probably to simple but i figured i should say something, have you removed your fairings and inspected your coolant tank? all that separates that plastic tank from your headers is a rubber heat shield which really likes to break and shift around. I found a very large hole melted in my coolant tank when i was wondering why my bike was getting so hot so fast. Just sum food for thought.

Ya make sure your level is right and if not find out why. If the fan isnt kicking on sooner than that it is the temp switch in the radiator. It needs cleaned or replaced. The fan can only work when it is told too. As for these bikes being known to run hot. not really, unless there is a problem which is not that common. What is common is they are older bikes now and many were not maintained properly. also the timing chain is not going to retard or advance enough to make a sufficient heat difference unless the carbs are already to lean to begin with.
