Hi, just bought a new CBR 600fy. Very happy with it, first big bike too.
Only thing is I have a 1 down 4 up gearbox. There is no 6th gear. The revs in 5th do equate to what a 6th gear would be doing though, between 5 and 6k rpm at 70 mph.
Anyone had this issue? The previous owner said the bike has always had 5 gears, so maybe another box from another model has found it's way in? Or is there something that could cause this?
The changes seem fine, just one less gear.

Any help or advice would be great.

 

Somethings not right here... I have never heard of a tranny swap for these bikes. CBR's from 87 all the way up have 6 gears, so finding one with 5 is suspicious. Maybe a bent shift fork won't let you get 6th. Any problems/slipping going into 2nd?

 

No issues with second gear. I did wonder if a gearbox from a CB/CBF had found its way in. I will see if there is a part number stamped on it that may give it away.
