Newbi Q?
I also shaved my seat down. On my last bike (GSX-R 600) I used the lowering links. Having down both it is easier and cheaper to shave the seat. Not only do you have to buy the lowering links but you also have to buy a new kick stand (another $100) so the bike will lean over at the correctly. If not the bike sits up almost straight up and down.
Trying shaving the seat first, there was a ton of padding on my f4 and still is very comfortable after I shaved about half of it off.

Just out of curiosity whats your inseam, if you don't mind? I'm not exactly tall and dont have long legs myself (30" inseam at best)...I can't flat foot both sides of the bike if my life depended on it, but I make do
