^ My question CJ is: Did you ever ride your bike w/ upgraded standard/OEM forks? ;-) I've still got std forks & they are more than sufficient...& I don't putt along either. ;-) I ride twisties at a spirited pace, track, & commuting of course, & my forks perform quite nicely. Of course, I keep my forks tuned & serviced (by me), so maybe that's got something to do w/ it. ;-)

All aside, I really like what you've done w/ the USD forks. I actually helped a member w/ this 'mod' several yrs ago (actually posted the pics here), when he had a front end collision on his F4 & needed new forks. He couldn't find F4/F4i forks & only had 1000RR forks avail to him locally as replacements. We worked thru the fitment & he got it going. That member has long since disappeared but I've helped others w/ the suggestion of the 1000RR front end.;-)

Really, the OEM forks are quite robust for what they are. However, the 1000RR forks *are* heavier & rebound can be adjusted to a slightly stiffer setting.

ETA: I would be remiss if I didn't point out what a great job you've done w/ your bike CJ...excellent!!! :-) I'm just waiting for those track pics.

thanks Gotcbr I have had USD forks before and when I got these forks they were in really bad condition the rebound screws ceased in the preload adjusters and there was a lot of salt corrosion on the body of the forks. The seals where good but that was about it. The 1000rr forks gave me updated forks, bigger brakes /rotors and a lighter front wheel. Once I overcame the clearance issues they where great. And I need to get my riding form back together than Im gonna take it to the track when I get back!

Ive been watching totw 1&2 and been reading to keep me thinking and I'll get pics and vids when I'm worthy

Edit: the USD forks where on a '04 kawi 600 that I, well, didnt maintain and I payed the price so I wanted to turn around and thats why I joined here and everything mutated into this and well now all I can say is I feel really bad that I treated my last bike so horribly. I have have never been on a track in a motorcycle but I grew up at one, never really got into it until now, didn't really want to when I was younger, I was really into bicycles and rock climbing and I guess its just something you need to grow into. But, if you must know I wanted to replace the forks reguardless of std or usd; in the end I submitted to peer pressure from my gf now wife. she pulled the whole logic of "do you want them (well, yea) than why (cuz the are nicer... I guess) sooo do you want them? (yea) so get them, if your going to replace why not upgrade!" I pretty much made up my mind that she was a keeper right then and there.

Turbs inspired me to go back and read through the entire thread and all I gotta say is you guys are troopers for following a long through a thread full of broken picture links and a rambling man. And Gotcbr dont think I haven't forgotten the ride to vegas.

Now I also promised pics of hawaii and I never delivered so, in no real order, without further adieu...

Yea my back is already complaining about everything at the end of the day. But I've got some more work done and its really just the final touches for now. tucking wires here, safety wiring there riding more. and getting the bike ready to be a garage rat for the next 7 months but there will be a lovely face to take care of her while Im gone.

You *need* to install a proper pressed pin & flared to spec master-link on that chain.

That setup you've got on the chain now will never pass tech-inspection at any track.

BTW, need little gift. ;-) Put one of those big "Remove Before Flight" tags on it & you're GTG. ;-)
