Thanks for the tips guys. I ordered a r/r, it should be on the way. I am currently looking at batteries to see which one I should get.

I have a pair of padded shorts I will using and I tested out a stuffed tank bag, it works pretty well. I have a Bluetooth headset in my helmet along with waterproof gps. I will be using my cell for pics (almost forgot about that Ern). I will be wiring in a charger which I will alternate between the gps, cell phone and bluetooth unit.

Luckily, I still have the oem toolkit which will be going with me along with a few other little things like a tire-patch kit and whatnot. Also, I wont even be carrying a tail bag because there is a car going with a few friends so they will be carrying my luggage (not sure if we will be going at the same time yet). I will only be carrying tools, parts, water, a microfiber cloth and a change of clothes.

Again, thanks to all who posted. I'm looking forward to the trip. To anyone else going, don't hesitate to come chat with me. I'm pretty sure I will be the only f4 there from NY with gold rims. lol

 

ah ok my brother who drives a CBR 600RR said my R/R was fine and my alternator was good too since it was charging my old dead battery (which i replaced..) and my bike is a 99 with 30k miles on it :3

 

The battery has a piece that you pop off to initially pour in the acid that comes with it. I'm not sure if its maintenance free. I am looking into a drycell battery but I am not sure yet. I don't think spending $150 on a drycell makes much sense to me on this bike.

 

You have a gel battery. Do not add water, it is supposed to be dry inside. When those batteries are new, it come with acid that gets put in at time of use, then caps are installed. The cells inside absorb the acid and it gels up.

Key to riding long distances is to be prepared for anything that could happen, mainly because then nothing will happen!
