Intermittent blinker problem
It seems my turn signals work only when they want to. Could this be a bad relay or perhaps some faulty wiring some where? Ive had the bike for a year and have not done anything to it other than regular maintenance and a new seat cover. Its a daily driver(snow is the only thing that has stopped me so far) so i would like my turn signals to work. Thanks for any suggestions.
I'd start with a multimeter and check voltage between the flasher relay and the signals. Keep checking at each connection until you find where the +12V ends when the switch is turned on.
I would start at the switch, the f4 is an old bike and switches can wear out or become corroded. You can clean the connections with some contact cleaner and a hard bristled brush, should help. Also do the same to the inside of all your other connections, follow up with using some di-electric grease to pack the connections with. The di-electric grease will help with the flow of the current as well as displace /keep out any water that might find its way into there. I recommend packing connections to everyone and it helps with a lot general maintenance as well as troubleshooting. Using a multimeter to trace wires works well and should still be done, however, starting with cleaning and packing all your connections will not only help but it will also help prevent it from happening again. Should only take 15-20 minutes.
