Default Help identify this part

Hey folks, I recently picked up a 99cbr600 that hasn't had the best care.
I am going to replace the fairings but in doing so I found this cable above the rear brake fluid reservoir that looks like it is barely held in place. I snapped it back in but I would like to know what it is to make sure everything is good. It's the cable with the Philips head surrounded by the black plastic nut.

Thanks for any help! I'm still looking at different diagrams to identify this, but this is my first time with these bikes so it's a little new for me.

hi. it's the throttle stop screw / idle adjuster. you can change idle speed by turning it. usually turning clockwise increases idle speed. turning counterclockwise decreases idle speed

Awesome thank you!
It seems very insecure, I plan on redoing the carbs soon so I will see if I can fix those plastics too.

Thanks!

It is indeed very insecure in that if you turn it too many rotations to the left it will come out. There is nothing to stop it unfortunately. You stand a good chance I’d losing the tension spring if this happens.

If you can get access to the cable with it pulled out loose from the bracket, you can wrap a small amount of plumbers PTFE tape in the white holding collar so that it sits a bit firmer in the bracket on install. As an alternative, you can undo the bolt on the inside holding the bracket on and then remove the bracket which will allow you to slightly adjust the 'C' section of the bracket to tighten it up. If you do this, you don't need to do it by very much at all. May be possible with a pair of pliers, or a gentle tap with a small hammer. Once the Idle Adjuster Cable is clipped back in it will hold it much firmer.

Mine was a bit loose when I bought the bike and I would reach down and adjust it depending on the weather as I wold ride it in Snow/Ice etc. (I preferred the engine to Idle a couple of hundred RPM higher in colder conditions. It seemed to help it at traffic lights and pulling away.) I was always reaching down with my winter gloves on and I would knock it out of the bracket by mistake. I adjusted it when I did the total rebuild project.

All that being said, a little bit of a loose fit won't do any harm at all so long as the cable isn't just falling out of the bracket.
