I recently painted my headers on my f4 black. I installed them a couple weeks ago and today I started the bike up for the first time and noticed after it got warmed up just the RIGHT most header started to smoke. The smoke was coming from between the engine block and the header where you bolt it in. Other than burning off paint...what else could be the problem?? Gasket?

 

Never messed with the pipes before but I think I remember someone saying the gasket may be a 1 time use crush gasket. Did you use new ones when you put them back on?

 

No I didn't! They all appeared to be in good condition. I fired the bike and let it warm up for about 15 and then let it rev at 4500rpms for around 2 min and the smoke quit. So I believe it was the paint that I used.

 

I hope that you used high heat exhaust paint at least.. most of the spray on stuff is crap... better off with the brush on stuff from places like eastwood.. those last forever..

they will smoke and maybe even smell until they cure..
