...as I can get. I'm not here asking for handouts on parts or anything like that. I'm here to ask for help on how things are supposed to be put back together. This is my second/third account, keep forgetting my old usernames/passwords, but now that I can use Facebook to log in, I'll never forget.

Anyways, about the bike. I picked up a 2000 CBR F4 from a ex-friend of mine for free last year. He laid it down and well...I have it now. So far I've had to replace the fairing stay, fairings, rims, right clip on, plus a few smaller parts here and there. I just recently picked up a set of fairings for $125 from a nice guy up near Portland. My issue, is that I can't seem to get them to fit perfectly, and ya its never going to look pretty like some of yours, it just doesn't "feel right" i guess you could say.

What I would like help with, is once I get some pictures of some parts/pieces, if you guys/gals could point me in the right direction and tell me what I did wrong or how to fix it. I am also in need of some final pieces till the bike is street legal again. Mirrors and Taillight. Anyways, thank you in advance!

Well, those fairings might possibly be some of those craptastic made in China ones. Some of the newer fairings coming out of HK/Taiwan have really upped their quality, but there are horror stories of really poorly made ones that require cutting and stuff to fit... and some don't fit in any way, shape, or form. What are the fairings made of? Do they feel like fiberglass or sturdier ABS plastic?

Ya I plan to pick one up the next time I get paid, so this coming Friday I'll be picking up one of the Haynes manuals. Had one for every car I've had, now time to get my first motorcycle one.

I was wondering about this gap and how to fix it. Anybody got any ideas? I'm pushing towards just putting a bolt through it and doing it that way. I'm not trying to make this perfect right now, just trying to get it on the street and legal.

You're doing a good job. Don't worry too much about exact fitment. Only you will really know.

As for that gap where you're trying to get it connected... If it were mine, if you can squeeze the two lowers together to close that gap...I'd drill a hole on each side of that gap, put a metal bracket as a backing plate on inside, & install the screws (one on ea side - heads on the outside).

Keep working at it. You'll have it up & going in no time!

 

I forgot to post a birds view of my tail fairing. Just by looking at it shows me that there's something wrong with it. From my non motorcycle experienced brain, I'm guessing that the subframe is tweaked, from when he wrecked it. As you can see by the seat hooks, one side obviously has a bigger gap than the other. I can still put the seat on and it holds it there, to me its just more of a visual thing.



If the subframe is tweaked, is the only thing it can effect is cosmetics and ride comfort? I don't feel anything out of the ordinary when sitting on it.

 

Is the tail cowl completely secured at all mounting points? Often times w/ tail plastics (among others), until every component is in place & secured, they have a way of doing their own thing til secured all around.

If it is actually tweaked a bit, as long as all components will still install & look reasonably straight, I wouldn't worry about it much. If you do want to get another subframe, there's always some on ebay.

 

The screws are in place and tight. I do have another subframe but it looks tweaked as well. When i'm financially able to, I'm probably going to be doing the split-seat conversion. I saw you had a tutorial in your photo gallery, so when I get to that point, I'll be sure to check yours out.
