fitting Endless chain
I have heard that to fit an Endless chain on the 1999 CBR600 F4 you have to remove the swingarm, so you can get the chain through. Seems like a lot of work. Do people really do this? or do they use the special chain tools to pull these endless chains apart and then put them back together.?
No, I really don't think anyone does this. Typically, for an endless chain, one will buy the endless chain, either in bulk or with the links required for the bike. If you are changing sprokets and their size, or going to a 520 chain, you can go with a bulk and cut the uneeded chain off. Most endless chains are recomended on these bikes, but don't try to take apart everything on the bike to get the chain on. One can either take the chain and cut it with a grinder, or do it the proper way with a chain cutting tool.
Once the chain is cut, then one is to put the chain on the sprockets, and prepare to put the master link in. Now this step is what defines an endless chain or not. If you are to put a master link with a clip on it, then it isnt considered and endless chain. For an endless chain, you purchase a rivet style master link that you have to press on the chain with a special press tool. Then it is considered "endless".
If you plan to go with the endless chain, I recomend a Motion Pro chain tool set, which for the appropriate 3 tools it costs around 90-100 dollars U.S. Otherwise the rivet style only really requires a pliars, and the master link. A lot of people like this set up so they can pull the chain off quick. My cousin does alot of stunting, and he has 2 rivet style links in the chain (not recomended, but still works). The tools are nice if you do a lot of bike work, but not really needed if you do the project once.
Any other questions, feel free. Peace.
