got bike from friend who put a 01 f4i motor in a 99 f4 then stripped all fi parts from motor due to not having them all then put all f4 parts on motor but after getting set up the bike will pop and backfire, and pop flames but still won't start any ideas

Check the cam timing. Make sure it's dead on.
Also don't the f4i's have a crank position sensor in a different location than the f4's?
He could have removed the f4i's CPS, yet failed to put the f4's one on
