the f4i redlines a little higher than the f4, other than that the tach isnt different. You dont want to use a temp sensor from a f4i either. You'll want to get one from a '99 900rr. The low fuel indicator will not work anymore, and the red dummy light is only on if theres no oil pressure or the temp is way too high. You also dont use the FI wire. I just did this swap complete with gauges, temp sensor, headlight and fairings. Its not cheap or extremely easy. You can buy the f4i gauges and fairing stay and still use the f4 upper fairing. I only changed all mine because I hit a deer last october, so now me and the bike are partial to each other and have some history so shes a keeper...for now. Im about to go snap some pics now and post em up in the pic thread for you guys to see if you wish.

I dont know I thought it was a pretty straight forward swap, I supose if you had no experiance in wiring or no basic understanding of wiring perhaps it might be out of your league but if you can read a diagram then you should be able to preform the swap in my opinion...I didnt use the FI wire; thats a no brain since our bikes are carbed. But thanks for the tip about the 900rr although I'd like to know why that one works and not the f4i one. As for the low fuel light I am probably going to try and figure out than one, perhaps I can switch over the sensor from a f4i tank.
But as for being expensive, I have less than $180 into the swap including the bracket so I dont think its an overly expensive swap espeacially compared to an aftermarket gauge swap that will run you in the $300's pretty easily...

the f4i temp sensor has 2 wires vs the f4/900rr's single wire, and the f4i sensor is a different thread, and aside from pulling the thermostat housing there is no way to rethread it. And as far as the gauges being swapped, no its not expensive. The fairing stay, headlight and upper fairing get to the expensive if you swap them over to the i. I did a complete swap, everything from the front to the back. split seat subframe, you name it. I was able to wire up the FI light for when the tank got to 1 gallon, but it didnt work correctly, so I disconnected it. As far as the f4i fuel sensor its a totally different setup that senses varying levels in the tank. The sensor is built in with the pump if my memory serves me correctly, so you would have to swap the tank im sure. and even yet, I also believe the ECU runs part of the fuel level on the f4i. I would have to check the diagrams again, but im sure I remember it running through it. Check out the pics I posted in the photo section. You can see the results there.

yeah I just bought a complete f4i bodykit for mine so I didnt factor it into my price...basically on my bike I bought it striped down to a frame, harness, wheels and motor....so making it look like an f4i was only about $250 different for everything wich is why I said its affordable
Thanks for the info on the 900rr sensor thats awesome to know...it sounds like I may just be screwed with the gas light thing but oh well I'll figure something out I am sure
