Default F4 Clutch vs. Newer 1000 Clutch

Hows it goin CBRF?

I just sold my 99 F4 and looking to upgrade to a 1000. I keep hearing about reversed clutches. The F4 is 1 down 5up, how do newer clutches shift? Where is neutral?

Thanks

They are all 1 Down and 5 Up.

It's always done from neutral, so 1 down/5 up would mean that FROM neutral, 1st is down, and the 2-6 (the 5) are above neutral.

You can reverse shift them to "GP shift", but they don't come that way from the factory. That would be 1up/5 down. And again, Neutral is between 1&2 - which is pretty much the standard for every motorcycle out there.

The only difference is that '04-'07 1000rrs had Hydraulic clutches. '08s went back to a cable. The only difference would be in a little bit of effort for clutch pulling, but even then, it has nothing to do with the mechanics of riding a motorcycle (clutch action, shifting, etc.)
