Default And the dummy strikes again....

Ok, having no information from the previous owner, how I would be able to tell if the carbs on the bike are jetted for the pipe and filter? I am assuming pulling a plug and taking a look at its condition is the first thing to do. Any advice would be appreciated. If you can;t tell I am pretty new to bikes...mechanical things, clutches, timing chains belts etc...I am fine with. carbs..different story. Bike in question 99 f4 13k automatic...j/k Thanks,

Automatic...BOOOO
Did you make sure the previous owner was a non-smoker?

Not sure if this helps but my roomates R6 is jetted, and on decel in gr from like 10k down, it backfires alittle a pops because its rich/jetted. My F4 with just a pipe does not do this...

Are you able to ride the bike and feel it out?If it runssmooth and sounds "clean"(no backfire, consistant as yougradually throttle, and doesn't sluggish) it's probably alright. 13K on a 99 f4 sounds pretty good as long as it's in good shape. If the bike has a slip on exhaust and a K&N, then they are probably compatable with the aftermarket jets. More importantly try to see ifthe fuel mixture is atthe specification and the carbs are synched. Other than feeling and listen to thebike, I can't tell you any other way if the bike is jetted correctly.

You have any doubts you can always change the jets if you need to.

You could take the carbs out and take one of the float bowls off of the bottom of one of the carbs. There you will see the main jet. It is basically a screw with a hole through the middle. It should have a number on it, or maybe not. But if you know what the stock jet looks like or what markings it may have, then you could tell if it is stock or not. Does anyone else know what the stock main jet looks like on this bike?
