Default doh!

did an oil change on my 05' F4i. drained old oil, changed filter, added 3 quarts of new oil, got distracted by the wife and forgot to add anymore. put on oil cap, and went for a ride to get some gas. came back home and realized i was running the bike 1/2 quart low, so i added some oil so the level was in between the two marks on the sight glass. could i have messed anything up running the bike with only 3 quarts of oil? thanks

I wouldn't think you'd have damaged anything over just 12 miles (as long as you weren't at redline the whole time). Another important (and messy) thing is to remember to fill your new oil filter before you install it. If your oil light was out, then your oil pressure was good and you were circulating lubricant.

It would have worn the engine more than normal due to the low oil preassure, but I doubt it'd do any major damage if it was a short hop to the petrol station. Depends how far you went really, if it was a short hop it wouldn't have worn noticably as long as it wasn't red lined like sparky was saying.
