If I know it is cold enough I am going to need the choke, put the choke on all the way and hit the ingition button (usually will not need to use any throttle). What I do is keep a eye on yourRPMs and when the RPMs get over 2,000 I slowly inch the choke forward keeping it between 2k and 1500 RPM after about 20-30 seconds of moving the choke forward to keep the RPMs down under 2K you should be able to close the choke all the way without the bike dieing on you( the RPM will probably drop under 1K at this point). Then I let it warm up from there on its own.
If you think your bike might start without the choke than open the throttle a little while hitting the ingition button. But when it is 30 some degrees outside you are going to need the choke.
Hope this helps

since i live in FL.. most of the time...IF on a cold start... no choke , hit the ignition... and let go... IT WILL DIE on me... but instead what i do... is , still no choke... cold start... give it gas for maybe 4-5seconds... and keep it at like 2k and let go... it will continue on its own from there....

I just started mine the other day when it was about 10 degrees outside. I always start it with full choke, give it a little gas before I try to start it and it normally fires right up. When its this cold though it normally takes a few attempts.
I can close the choke on my f2 and f3 and start them right now and they won't die. Did I mention its 10 degrees?
I just choke it, once it gets warm enough the RPM's will shoot up, turn off the choke and go.
