Default Considering 2000 CBR600F4 as track bike

Hey guys! I'm new here, just signed up. I was searching the autotrader one day, and I found a slightly smashed CBR600F4 bike. I took track school this year (2006) and have been hooked since. I've been thinking about purhcasing this slightly smashed CBR600F4, repairing it/replacving parts and obviously converting it to a track bike. I'm just curious if a 2000 CBR600F4 would be a wise choice for a track bike, for a newbie racer. It's a bit older, and I know it's a bit heavier, and the HP figures would be lower then that of the modern sportbikes.

Any advice woukld be awesome!

it's a solid, reliable bike. For a beginning track rider, it would be a great bike.

Yea. I've been talking to a lot of people here, and they're all for it... infact they're saying that I better ****** it up before they do, lol! So I'm going to visit the dealer this satutrday, hopefully it's still around. He wants 1500 CDN for it, seems to be a pretty smashing price if you ask me! I just hope the frame isn't bent.

Damn man - fellow Speed Junkie?

Ya - for that price if it starts buy it... check the usual things with a crashed bike - if the forks or frame are bent then it can quickly cost alot of money to get it safe.

Woot.

Its a great bike to start out with, i converted my f4 to a track bike. Its stable and forgiving. The first mod i would suggest would be some new rearsets, they drag all over the place even with the feelers ground off.

What is the difference between a track bike and race bike?

You can use almost anything as a track bike - taking the High Performance school for example... but if you want to be competitive you'd need a race bike (is what is being suggested) to race in the 600 class.

Around here at Shubie my 600 F4 was raced in the first round and did ok, and on the Junkie board someone else was talking about a person who had put down some very good times with their F4.

I don't think you'd be completely blown out of the water in the amature 600 class... you're only down a few hp, the biggest difference will be that the newer bikes are better out of the box in terms of suspension, brakes and weight.

WOOT IS SO CORRECT...

my friend has an F4i trackbike...streetable...anyway, went to the track...a new R6...put 20 lengths on him in the straights...now if you were racing...you can invest so much bling into the bike and it's eventually going to top out on power, but still down when against the newer bikes...
