Default Clutch or tranny question.

My F4 has 16K miles on it. Sometimes when I shift up or down it seems to skip and not go into gear properly and has the sound like the chain is just spinning freely on the sprocket but I have to tap again and it will go into gear. This happens when upshifting and also downshifting but not every time. Maybe every 20 or 30th time I shift. Someone said this could mean the clutch needs adjustment or the chain is old, but the chain is in OK condition. What do you guys think?

I don't think it would be the chain. My first guess would be the tranny or the clutch. Mine does that every now and then too. Not sure if I just messed up the clutch accidentally or what. Mine also has 47k miles. I'm sure mine is probably a little worn though.

You've landed between gears when that happens. Pull in the clutch and re-try the shift. I do not have enough experience with CBRs to say whether what you're experiencing is a problem or not. It happens to me occasionally.

This also happens from time to time with me as well. I notice it when I am light with my shifts. So I just make sure I'm firm not necessarily rough but just sure footed when I change gears. 99 F4 23k

It could be a few things...

1) Worn shift fork/rounded teeth on the gears of the tranny
2) you aren't being firm enough with your shifts.
