Default choke cable routing

How does the choke cable route? Mine stays on the left side of the bars, goes under the tank and routes to the right side of the tank right behind where the front of the tank mounts. is this correct?? It looks like my cable is kinking and causing my choke to stay on... I think this could by my sputtering problem between 1500-3000 rpms. Sound realistic?

routing sounds right. crosses in front of the left fork, goes under a bracket at the front of the frame where the tank mounts, crossing to the right side of the bike in order to have a straight shot at the bracket on the carbs that actuates the choke. The other half of your question is out of my league.
