Default RE: To buy or not to buy?

ok, sooo i'm a little frustrated. i was supposed to ride it monday, then tuesday, then today, then tomorrow, and now it's not til wednesday next week. he couldn't get the battery in time on monday, he got it and replaced the battery tuesday but the carbs were flooded, cleaned the carbs today (wednesday) but since it was flooded the plugs are bad, so now has to get new plugs and a "hose" (not sure what for) and they wont be in til tuesday of next week.

he told me he feels terrible that all this is happening and that it's really embarassing because he has never had a problem with it until trying to sell it, and now all this came up. i'm hoping he's just a nice honest guy and is just trying to make sure it's running perfect when he sells it, but i'm a little nervous about all this at the same time. now i've got to wait to hear back from him and i'm not sure if i should show my current bike to a guy who wants to see it this weekend (i don't want to not have a bike with springtime fast approaching, ya know?)

decisions decisions.... what do ya'll think?

A flooded set of carbs is fine in my experience with flooded motors, I just pulled the plugs and put rags in each cylinder hole, then turned the motor over a bunch of battery power. This gets all the gas and crud out. If he "cleaned" the carbs... does this mean he took them all apart? Tinkering with carbs = bad. Unless he is a pro or good at it.

yea, he was talking taking them apart and cleaning them with carb cleaner.

he's a pretty serious dude when it comes to bikes and definitely seems to know what he's doing.

i have only owned one bike and never done any motorcycle maintenance before but i took apart my carbs, rejetted and put them back together (using the shop repair manual thing) with no problems, so it's not that difficult anyway IMO.

he's getting into enduro riding, buying a 450 dual sport and riding the continental divide up to alaska this summer. aka: he's nuts. but he is also pretty knowledgeable about bikes.

EVERYTHING is going to depend on how it feels and everything when i ride it (granted he ever gets it running...) i'm just itching to get on that thing. ughhhhh

If the battery was dead then the engine would not crank over and it would just click and not flood the engine. If he pulls the carbs off and apart then they will need to be snyc'd after they are re-installed.

This sounds like a bunch of BS to me and I say run away from this deal as fast as you can.

maybe he just meant he was going to clean them, not take them apart, because you can do that right... like take them off and soak them in carb cleaner or something? i may or may not have any idea what i'm talking about. hahaha.

i should be able to tell when riding it if all is not well as far as carb syncing right?

what would be the symptoms of that, so i know what to look/feel for?

i'm certainly proceeding with caution through the rest of this deal regardless.

If the carbs come off they will need to be sync'd. If the carbs are out of sync the bike will run ruff and not make as much power.

I still say run away from this-there are other bikes out there.
