Default bent swingarm or frame?

got a question, am tearing down my cb4 f4 after the accident i had and was wondering how do i tell if the frame or swing arm have been bent or tweeked. i broke the shifter pedal and bracket, and just bolted on a new one and the shift rod is just barely touching the chain..and i don't think it was that close before the accident. all the damage on the bike was on the left side and not too bad, fairing messed up, mirror and signal gone, front fairing cracked, no damage to be seen on swingarm or frame...really not sure whats going on.

if anyone can take a few pictures of the shifter/bracket area from different angles it would be very appreciated...something just doesn't seem right here.. thanks...

Pretty sure it suppose to be straight, if it wasn't dark and cold i would go and take a look. Check out this page a few posts down this might help.

Just read the part where you said the shift rod is touching the chain? It defiantly should not be touching.

from the picture in the other thread the rod doesn't bolt to the frame, so the more likely scenario is that you bent the piece the lever bolts on to (shifter?) i don't know what you would call it on a bike. dunno the work involved in removing that, but i imagine it would require some partial disassembly of the tranny.

so right now i'm concerned if the bracket is bent, the one i took off the bike was broken but bent quite a bit, the part i replaced it with was from ebay and does have a bend in it, just want to know if it is suppose to have a bend in it or is it suppose to be pefectly straight light the right hand side, this is a link to the part i'm talking about.

im thinking the most likely scenario is that the tabs on the frame are tweaked, it should be pretty obvious by looking if they are since they should be level and flat with the frame. have you tried to just bend it back out a little bit?

No matter what, if you decide to bend the shifter (or anything alse for that matter) don't do it cold! Just thought I would throw out a friendly reminder (sorry if this is common knowledge, but people have slips of the mind from time to time). Cold+bending stuff=BAD! Living in Wisconsin, it is cold, and stuff snaps very easily in the cold. If at all possible, warm the piece a little (just a little) in the area you plan to bend it.

Again, sorry if i'm reaching to the choir, but I hate to see people make irritating small mistakes.
