Default Bad fuel economy on an F4i

Hello guys.

I was hoping you could help me with an issue i have with my Honda f4i.

I am having really bad fuel economy with my f4i. I have black smoke when redlining or when at high revs. And you can really smell the gasoline.
The fuel economy is around 13L/100km or 18 MPG (Really bad...)

Here is the stuff I have tried:
  • Changed the air filter
  • Checked the sparkplugs and the wiring harness for the sparks (all fine, but changed them out anyways)
  • Changed the coolant temperature sensor for a brand new OEM one {I thought the electric choke was causing the rich fuel mixture because of the bad Coolant temp sensor)
  • Checked the injectors (All fine)
  • Checked for leaks (No leaks)
The FI light doesn't come on and the bike runs just fine. It starts fine and it doesn't "cough" when idling. The power is a bit off because the fuel mixture is rich but I don't know what causes it to be rich.

Any help would be great.

Thank you in advance <3

Welcome to the forum, how many miles are on it?
I would be starting with compression and valve checks, the valve clearances tighten with mileage.

Thanks, I would certainly check the valves as they will need doing if they have not been done before followed by a compression check to make sure the smoke is not oil slipping past the rings and getting burnt. Then proceed from there.

Wouldn't the smoke be blue if it was oil being burnt?

Generally yes, but can also be the cause of black smoke.
One other point, have you checked the FPR, I cant see it in your steps above?

It seems that changing the FPR is the most obvious way to go about solving the fuel problem. I didn't check it. Chekced the oil, the bike is not using that much oil. Everything is normal there.

Gonna change the FPR and hope for the best.

Pleas let us know how you get on, there is a flow test that you can do identified in the manual.
