Another electrical problem
So my bikes been sitting for about a month because it needed a chain and sprocket in rear tire about to 3 to $400 worth of stuff. And before it seem to be running really poorly had issues with what I thought was my fuel pump so I took it off and it ran fine. Previous to that I my problem was I had too much voltage at my battery when my throttle was up, I had around 18 volts needless to say I blew up a battery or two. So I replaced the rectifier and all seems well. So now after sitting for awhile I turned on my bike I noticed the headlights were a little dim I checked out the battery and under normal idle I had the normal range voltage however when I reved it up is shot all the way up to 18 volt again. I'm not sure why it's doing this . The rectifier has maybe 1000 miles on it. Is it possible its already fried could it be the problem with my fuel pump was too much voltage at the pump? Not really sure what to check next. What really sucks is now I've got my tire my chain and two new sprockets and still can't hide the bike because I am weary of blowing up another battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Well I finally got around to it getting everything installed on my bike chain, both sprockets, and new rear tire. I ordered a new rectifier fortunately they're cheap on ebay for around $40 US including delivery. However as I have learned from my last rectifier which cost around the same they only last a few months or around six or seven thousand miles. The bike is back to running proper the old rectifier smelled like it was burnt. I checked all the connections and everything's fine. I guess we'll see how long this will last me I'm just happy to have a bike back on the road.
Glad to hear it! why don't you upgrade the R/R? It will cost more initially but in the end your charging system will thank you. And it wouldn't hurt to check your alternator anyways, that might be why your burning through R/Rs so fast. I think the CB1000rrs are plug and play but I'm not positive. Or if you are willing to do some soldering you can upgrade to a MOSFET R/R and resolve all your problems as they are very durrable and strong. Your looking for a FH0012 or FH0020
