Default 1st cbr???

First let me say hello to everyone as this is my first post here. Ok so now im lookin to buy my first cbr. I have found a 2000 cbr 600 f4 here locally and have a few questions before I commit to buying it. First off the owner says it has a new engine that needs an ECU....How hard/expensive of a fix is that going to be? The bike also comes with the original motor which the owner claims is running but needs a set of head gaskets. It also has a new rear tire and chain. He says it also has a dyna rev limiter and polished frame and swing arm.

I don't know the milage on the bike or what the plastics look like (supposed to be in good shape) as I haven't seen it yet but the guy is asking $1500.00 for it does that sound resonable considering the repairs needed.

Thanks for ur help,
Adam

The ecu has something to do how fast the bike can run, or regulated, (control how fast the bike can go)More or less a computer chip. I might be wrong, seems like i remember reading about it in a mag. Or has something to to with the ignition, Loosing the keys to
the bike. Hope that helps, i read to much, get my info messed up somtimes.

Since the F4 is non fuel injected, Honda actually refers to this as the ICM (Ignition Control Module). They are not that much money. $100-200 working used condition. Check ebay. The ICM on the F4 is a plug and play device, and it's easy to install, mounted to the side of the sub-frame under the rear cowl. Now if that's what's actually wrong, who knows.

I don't know man, I wouldn't buy something that didn't run, unless I was 100% sure I knew what would fix it. Tell him to throw the ICM in and get it running, then you can negotiate the price. Throw some pics up of it.

The first question i have is if the new motor is installed? or is it just "included" with the sale? The price does sound a little cheap, but if you are mechanically minded I dont see much of a problem with it. I would go over and look at the bike, see if the new motor is installed and if all that is needed is the ICM. Thats a good price for a bike with new motor, ectra original motor, new chain, new tire and if all it needs is ICM. Just my 2cents.
