Default What's it worth

I know it's like someone is beating a dead horse with this subject but here it goes. I found a 1998 CBR 600 f3 for sale somewhat locally, I'm probably going to go look at it tomorrow and take cash with me. The bike has 13K miles, aftermarket exhaust and is geared down on the sprockets, flush mounts and a few other odds and ends. Left fairing is scratched up from being dropped and the right tail fairing is broken off and needs replaced. He says the tires are in decent shape but from the pics I wouldn't be surprised if they will need to be replaced soon. His add says $2100, but in the description it says "Make me an offer on this awesome bike and you can be cruising around on a great bike this summer!!!" so I think he may be fairly negotiable on the price if I bring cash. Tell me what you guys think

thanks
-Dan

i think 2100 is a fair price i paid 3200 for mine with new tires, flush mounts and a two bros pipe. All of my plastics are in great shape too, no scuffs or scrapes.

Broke plastic, I'd get him down to $1500 if you can. Plastic isn't all that cheap (up to $200 if its real crazy priced) Make sure the center tail plastic is in good shape ... that is the hardest plastic piece to find!

The center tail fairing is only $75.00 NEW!

Used fairings/plastics are A LOT cheaper now then they were a year or two ago also.

Obviously you need to check for any fairing stay/wheel/swing arm damage.
Check the pegs & clutch/brake levers too.

By the way I have a nice 1997-98 right side tail fairing (side cover) that I will sell...

1998 is the "big dog" of the F3s. It has the updated plastics, gauge cluster, and of course it was the last year that the F3 was produced, making it the newest F3 you'll find.
If the damage is limited only to needing one fairings & some paint $2,100.00 is a fair price.
Obviously the cheaper you can get it, the though. It sounds like he is willing to deal.
Hit him low, and show him the cash. That works most of the time. Remember you can always work your way up.

You may wanna provide some links for your friend here then if you can find these parts so cheap. These bikes are 10+ years old, paying over $2000 for a smashed oldie is pretty crazy.

He isn't my friend, I don't even know him. I don't know anybody or even met anyone that is a member on this forum.
He asked for opinions and I gave him mine.

He never said it was smashed, he said it was dropped on the left side. HUGE difference.
So it may need another right side rear fairing and maybe a little paint. Far from being a "smashed oldie" in my opinion.
Not to mention 13,000 miles is a big bonus (barely broken in) on these bikes.

Gladly, here they are:

A nice used white 1997-98 center tail I bought yesterday for $40.00 shipped from member KXracer103 (I also got the undertail from him for an extra $15.00 shipped):

A brand new (still in Honda bag) maroon 1997-98 center tail that is for sale here on the foums by member: texranger. It's only $40.00!

Here is a 1997-98 entire tail section fairing set (right, left, & center included) for only $100.00. His screen name here is Gibby936. Here is a PM he sent just me:

"I kind of wanted to sell most of the plastic together. $100 for the whole tail: left, right, and center. + shipping"

About 3 weeks ago there was an entire undertail with binkers, tail light with harness & bracket, and a yellow center tail fairing that sold for ~$60.00.
I dont have that link anymore though.

As for a brand new center tail fairing from a Honda parts dealer the 1997-98 center tail fairing piece was...

$71.39 from Alba Action Sports

and

$71.99 from Ron Ayers Motorsports.

Good enough?

I think I can get him down to between $1500-$1700. I'm going to be taking cash with me and as they say, money talks. Are there any common problems with these bikes that I should be looking for? I know the zx6's had 2nd gear problems, and I just want to cover my bases and not buy anything that's going to need major work after I buy it.

daniel_depetro, If I buy the bike I will probably need that tail fairing you have. What color is it? I will let you know if I end up needing it or not.

Here are a few pictures of the bike
