tightening the chain ?
1.loosen the axle bolt.
2. loosen the lock nuts on the rear on the end of the swingarm.
3. tighten up the inner nut to where the chain is tight
3.tighten lock the lock nut without moving the inner one (Two wrenches).
this is probably really confusing but it makes since in my head.

Pretty much what he said. I'll just add that you want to make sure you have some slack in the chain when you're done. Between 1" and 1 1/2" of slack. If you've never worked on bikes before try and find a buddy that knows sumpin-sumpin about bikes help ya.
If you have an owners manual it will say in there. Another important thing to make sure when you check your chain slack is CHECK IT IN MANY SPOTS NOT JUST ONE. It will be different if the chain has wear.
Check it, spin the tire a little and check it again. I have had chains that are 1" in one spot and 1/2" in another. So if it is 1/2" where you check it, it could have under that in other spots. So be sure to check it all the way around.
That is good info. You definitely want the tightest part to have at least an inch of slack. If that causes another section to have too much slack then it might be time to replace the chain.
