Depends how much of a learning experience you're prepared for. If you're OK with the bike being down for months because you broke something expensive and have to save up for a new canooter valve or manifold bearing, or just plain can't figure out how it goes back together, then yeah.
Personally, I'd deal with bump starting until the end of the season, and leave the engine for a winter project.

I'd do it for sure. I'm only 16 and can do 99% of anything on streetbikes(not quite to adjusting valves etc mainly because i don't have the tools). I learned from long nights alone in my work shop with the music cranked and my manual in hand for side reference! It's really not that complicated like most people think it is. Go for it man!
