Default tail conversion question

Hey guys, i have a 96 f3 and I am getting all new plastics and putting a 97-98 tail on it. I have the bracket and light but the plastics are on their way. I am wondering if the stock seat is interchangable because after reading through some threads theres many different answers. does anyone know if I can get away with using the original seat for now, or do i have to spend $140 on ebay?
appreciate any help or tips

The 95-96 seat will not work on the 97-98 plastics - but the 97-98 seat will work with the 95-96 plastics (though it looks a bit odd).

If you can, get the trunk kit that came with the 97-98 plastics or else you'll have to cut the hell out of the existing one on your 96.

It's the little black, molded plastic box that the wiring harness for your tailight and turn signals rest in. There is also a small space just in front of that part that is actually a trunk made for a tool kit (though there is no easy way to access it). It's right inder your seat bro, and it's also connected to the battery tray.

Can't miss it.
