You really should have a jig. you dont have to worry about just the length, you have to worry about the side to side straightness as well as the straightness across the top and bottom.
Even .005" out at the axle will be dramatic at the outer reaches of the wheel. And if you are an experienced welder, then you know how bad things pull when they are welded. that much weld all around the swing arm and it will not be straight. If its not locked down in a jig, it will pull all over the place.

If you take into account that the chains center to center distance increases as it moves from the front sprocket to the rear, thenI would guess you would need a chain that is 17 inches longer than your stock one. 8 iches per side, plus an inch for center to center distance increase. this is only an estimate. I would buy a chain that was at least 20 inches longer than your stock. you can always cut off the extra links you dont need.
