Default SPEEDOMETER/SPEED SENSOR QUESTION

My speedometer/0dometer and trip guage have ceased working...not to my tachometer is fritzy...I've also noticed that the bike is being starved for either air or fuel...im guessing its air, since the f3 has an intake for under 12mph and then the ram air for over 12mph. I think since my speedometer isn't working, which may be a problem with the speed sensor as well, the bike always thinks its going under 12mph and doesn't use the RAM AIR, so its getting starved for air... this leads me to ask these two questions:

1) Is my thinking correct?
2) Can anyone give me an outline or link me to an article that explains how to change the speedsensor? I can't find any on the net that actually explain how to change the sensor, or in my clymer's manual.

thanks

1. remove the side fairing and fuel tank

2.disconnest the speed sensor 3p connector

3. remove the bolts and speed sensor.

4. remove o ring from speed sensor

the connector is on the side of the frame above clutch cable

the sensor has 2 bolts and its by the starter

I have a 95 CBR 600 and speedometer hasn't worked since I've owned it and it runs fine.
