Default Speedometer problem.

Hi everyone,

Been out today on the bike, 1996 CBR 600 FS (F3) and after a while I noticed the odometer and trip odometer had stopped working. They were working at some point as I remember the trip miles had changed, I use it to estimate the petrol left in the tank. Strangely though, it has stopped between 39,999 and 40,000 miles. I reset the trip and it went to zero, but that made no difference. The part mile indicator on the trip does look like it is trying to move as it moves from 0 to half way to one, then stops. I can reset it back to 0 again. The speed indicator needle is fine, so I know how fast im travelling. Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks everyone.

Safe riding.

Yeah please post back your finding. I'll also let you know what I find when strip mine down. I've searched google and cannot find anyone else describing these symptoms, were unique, lol. As the speed indicator needle is working and the part mile seems to be trying to move, im guessing it just might need a good clean.

Got an update for you Gavin. I removed the instrument panel and inspected it. The rear of the panel has the circuit board. Which was showing signs of rust and corrosion. I used a pcb pen to remove all the crud and cleaned all the bulbs/holders and the connector bolts that supply the signals/power to the dials. Some of the tracks to the illumination bulbs are that damaged the circuit is broken. So I’m ordering some copper tape to repair the tracks. I've now tested it and it is fully working again.

If you need any help, let me know. Hope this helps.

Rob.
