Default SPEEDOMETER not working

so today i left work on my bike and i was cruising and i headed up to a store for gas. shut my bike off and got gas and came back out. started riding back towards home and noticed that my speedometer was not working. i am positive that is was working before i got gas. i know it has absolutely nothing with getting gas but thats just the story. i was hitting the speedometer while i was riding and nothing happened.anybody have any insight on this or know about any common issues? i could have sworn that i have seen issues with the speedometers in another thread but i cant find it. help appreciated

check the connection for the speed sensor, mine was loose when I got it and it would drop off every once in a while. Should be a 3 prong plug on the right side of the bike, just above the clutch cover and engine hanging bracket. Make sure it has a good connection. If you need a picture let me know. Hope this helps.
