Default shock choices?

hey guys,

my shock seems to be reaching the end of its life and been doing a spot of research with the intent of replacing it with a superior oem part f4i etc and have came up relatively empty handed in terms of the details so I'm looking for a spot of insight really.

what shock are you running and what have you run?

came across this video where the guy has fitted one off a 08 600rr, also found one going cheap from a low mileage bike on fleabay -

does anyone have comparable figures for the two shocks? most charts that are kicking about have neither bikes.

one thing that concerns me is the 08 rr weighs 188kg wet where as the 98 f3 is 207kg wet, thats 19kg difference before taking into consideration me weighing in at about 90kg and that most bikes seem to be sprung for japanese children haha

the bike is primarily used for fast road, last thing i want is the shock getting overloaded in a corner.

wow i always write too much haha but yeah i'd love to hear your experiences and i'm open to suggestions =]

thanks guys,
B.

Fox, Ohlins, or Penske pop up on ebay once in awhile. There expensive, $400 at least, sometimes more especially the Ohlins. I've got a Fox on my track F2, love it love it love it. Compression, rebound, and ride height adjustable. You could also have your stock shock rebuilt by a reputable suspension specialist. Lindeman did my stock shock years ago, they're still in business. Daughtery did my Fox 2 years ago. The rebuild was about $150. If you do the stock shock rebuild do one with the remote resevoir, F3 has it and 94 F2's. The F4i shock, I read raises the rear quite a bit. Which sacrifices rear traction when lean over, if its raises too much. If you did do the F4i shock you could raise the clamps in the forks and use a 70 series front tire to restore the levelness on the bike. If that makes any sense. There is a thread in the F2 section that discusses all this, might be worth checking out. Search F4i shock on F2, I think.

thanks for the response frank, i don't seem to get notified of responses on here. yeah i get you though, the bikes receiving a fairly major overhaul at the moment, still haven't found myself a cost effective shock replacement. thats pretty much what i was reading on the f4i shocks, using longer dogbones could also help counter the increased ride height, the f4i uses eyelets on both ends if memory serves as well so its not just the case of redrilling the mounts to make it shorter either. already using a 120/70 to compensate for some lost height with a 929 USD front went swap. sadly aftermarket isn't an option for me unless something pops up cheap enough, would love a fox, wp etc. I've seen a few people using alternative oem replacements, blade, r6 so on so forth but just because it fits and they love it, doesn't mean it's not going to be adverse does it. keeping my eyes peeled for now though.
