Sounds like you're thinking of cars. You gotta remember, your bike redlines at like 14k, not, say, 9k like your car. The only oddball gear on these is 1st, which is rreeeeaaallllllyyyyyy wiiiiiidddddddeeeee. This allows for the upper gears to be closer together, so if you to accidentally shift a higher gear while racing, you won't lose a ton of power due to your mistake.

I had always played with cars when i got my bike. I had an s10 that I put a v8 in. I used to shift it at about 5k. I got my bike, and was shifting about 4-5 k for the longest time, and it just didnt seem right to go into 6-12k range. Thought I was going to hurt it. One day for some reason I went to like 10k and realized that it was a totaly different beast than I ever imagined.
