That's about right. Why the concern?

just figured sixth would be more like an overdrive gear and sit somewhere between 3 and 4k at highway speed, no biggie though

5 grand is pretty low for something that redlines at like 13500

Only with a bigger engine. My Blackbird (1137cc) at 65mph will sit at 3-4K but doesn't really like that low of rpms at that high of gear. Throttle gets really touchy.

Johnnyx is right... that's what these things do. After a while, you get used to the sound and it sounds normal.

Sounds like you're thinking of cars. You gotta remember, your bike redlines at like 14k, not, say, 9k like your car. The only oddball gear on these is 1st, which is rreeeeaaallllllyyyyyy wiiiiiidddddddeeeee. This allows for the upper gears to be closer together, so if you to accidentally shift a higher gear while racing, you won't lose a ton of power due to your mistake.

I had always played with cars when i got my bike. I had an s10 that I put a v8 in. I used to shift it at about 5k. I got my bike, and was shifting about 4-5 k for the longest time, and it just didnt seem right to go into 6-12k range. Thought I was going to hurt it. One day for some reason I went to like 10k and realized that it was a totaly different beast than I ever imagined.

My F2 redlines at 13k and at the track I spend the whole day at 9-14k and haven't had problems yet. The bikes are made to rev high. The only thing you have to be careful with in redline is floating your valves. Anything under redline will not hurt your bike at all.

I do track days with my F3 too. If your not over 8K in any gear the power doesn't feel right.

What gear setup are you using at the track?
