Replace petcock

Replace petcock
This is the first time I have had to replace this part. I have a few questions on how to be safe during this repair. When I take the tank off do I have to drain all of the fuel out first or can it have some in it when I turn it upside down? Also do I put anything on the threads where the petcock attaches to the tank to make sure there is a tight seal? The part comes in on Thursday and I was hoping I could fix it then. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

be sure to have the petcock turned off when you remove the tank. After removing the tank ,sit it on a bench. Then connect a hose to the petcock and the other end to a gas can. turn the petcock on, and it will drain most of the gas from the tank. Remove the old petcock and install the new one.
I also use teflon tape on the threads when I install a new one.
