Default Removal of front sprocket bolt oil seal

Whats up riders,I have a 96 CBR F3 and i have a oil seal leak beind the front sprocket that connects to the transmissiion i believe. I cant seem to get the sprocket off and I cant turn the bolt to get the sprocket off. Is there a certain tool i may need or a certain procedure to remove it? I broke a ratchet I had but it was cheap anyhow. What should i do to remove the screw that secures the front sprocket that is wrapped with the chain? I put it in gear and tried to loosen it but it wouldnt loosen, thats when i broke the mechanisms inthe ratchet. Any suggestions? I got pics of the the problem area and this is witht he chain off already.

Are you sure it is a leak or is it just the excess lube off of your chain? I get a small amount of oil coming from that area but it is just the chain lube, what colour is the oil as the engine oil sound be a red colour (if you change it regulary)and is very hard to see when it is leaking, where as if it is chain lube it will be black.

Yeah, my last road worthy, the guy pointed at the same spot & said "oil leak". When I got it home I took the cover off and cleaned up all the excess gunk, no oil leak, just lube, mixed with road crud.

sorry fellahs it's going to be that oil seal that sits behind the front sprocket. I was told i will have to split the cases. I have a few questions too. So im going to have to split the case just to change that seal that sits behind the sprocket. Split the case is saying take the whole engine out, correct. Im mechanically inclined and i have the time to do it. Not really in a rush and would love to learn how to do it. Just to note that when i had the bike in neutral it was really hard to move in reverse, could that be other signs of things to come? The gears still shift all the way through, its just I had trouble moving in reverse and then along comes the oil leak from the sprocket seal. What does it entail to fix the seal and am i better off taking it to the shop? Thanx

how did you get the old one out? i have the exact same bike with the exact same problem. Sorry, I know I am ressurecting a very old thread here. I have the new seal - just need to get the old one out. I have the sprocket off but the old seal doesn't seem to want to budge. Do I have to drill a hole in the seal and pull it out with some sort of stiff bent wire? Seems like there is a metal washer under the rubber gasket material. Thanks!

Hey man, havent pulled this specific seal your talking about, but your on the right path. Try making a hole with a wood screw, if you manage to get it to bite, you should be able to pull that seal right on out. It will be tricky, but ive done seals in my honda car this way. Just dont miss or go to deep with your screw, dont want to scratch the metal or stab it in too far. Take your time and you should be able to do it. Good luck man, let us know how it goes. btw, there is a metal ring built into the seal, when trying to run that screw into it, you will get resistance, but you should be able to press on and get by it.
