Just went to put new rear brake pads in. As I took the old ones out the pad retaining spring fell out and for the life of me I cannot workout how the b***dy thing fits back in!? The Haynes manual doesn't show it in position. Also there wasn't a pad support spring. I have ordered one from Wemoto and before it arrives can anybody tell/show me how they both fit in the caliper and in relation to the pads?
Any advice would be most welcome 🙂
Flip caliper upside-down.
Slide spring into caliper at top
Insert pads and push down to hold spring into place
slide pad-retaining in to hold everything together
Flip caliper back upright and re-install

Thanks for that.
Is that the pad retaining spring or the pad support spring? Or isn't a pad support spring needed as there wasn't one there when I took the pads out?
Thanks for the quick reply btw
Thanks again for that. Looks like the spring that dropped out just sits in the top of the caliper and the pads just push up into it, they don't have to be sort of locked or fitted into the spring?
Pads just push on it. At back of spring plate, there may be a bend or fold that slides into groove or channel on caliper to locate and centre it. But nothing that clips firmly into place. That's why it falls out easily when you remove pads. PIA!

Thanks for the guidance. I'll give it a go at the weekend.
I know this is an old thread, but it is a useful one.
I have rebuilt my CBR1000's swingarm etc, and I got the caliper off to clean the bracket. Two items fell out, a spring and an anti rattle shim. You know how things bug you till they are resolved, I'm typing this at midnight (UK), having just fitted these little herberts.
Anyway, I found out how to replace the spring but no mention of the shim.
I fits into the caliper bracket and the rear of the pads slot into it.
I hope this is a useful addition to this thread for those of us with escaping springs etc.
D.D.
The spring slots in over the pads, with the tab to the rear.
