Default Quick question

Will riding at low revs, approx 3 to 4000 with the headlight on drain the battery quickly??

No, can't quite remember what the optimal rev for charging is (maybe 2000 rpm), but 3000 to 4000rpm is well over & it would not drain your battery quickly.
Me thinks you may have the start of the dreaded reg problem & like everyone else who has had it, your assuming it's the battery (has to be right, what else?). And like everyone else, your probably going to charge it, then buy a new one when that don't fix it. Do yourself a favour & have the reg checked out. Make sure the bike is warmed up as the reg faults start when it overheats.

2.5k will sustain the bike through the stator, 5k is optimal charging. Everything in between WILL charge, just more slowly. 3-4k is normal cruising range for just about all stock motorcycles, so if you're having a problem there, you definitely have a hardware failure.

5k is optimal.

Find the charging system test on here and go to town. Let us know what you find out.

It could be that you have a bad battery as well and it's not allowing it to charge properly.
