Default Problems with fox racing shox

Just bought a brand new fox racing shox off of ebay, it was a good deal at $285 until I tried to install it. I went to go install it today and the bushing spacers/collars that the shock bolts ride through are toothick for the mount openings on the bike. I was wondering if anyone had this problem who has an aftermarket shock? I will be calling the company tomorrow to find out if I can send these spacers back to get re-machined to the correct thickness. The top one is a total of .065"ticker than the original spacer and the bottom is .075"thicker than the original spacer. I guess let me know if anyone else has experienced this. All the paperwork that came with the shock, the manual with the sticker label, the is labled sticker on the outside of the box, along with the stamp on the shock all indicate it for my bike and match up, so I am at a loss as to why I am having this problem.

sounds like you got screwed by the Ebay seller rather than Fox. Its likely you didn't get an F3 shock.

I'm surprised the shock is new. Fox stopped supporting street applications some years ago. I thought the only way you'd find a Fox shock for a street bike these days is by getting a used one.

Well it would be kind of hard to duplicate factory fox racing stickers that indicate the model # and everything and have the stamp thats on the shock match those as well. There was a sticker on the side of the box indicating model #, a sticker on one of the manuals, and the stamp thats on the bottom of the rod end of the shock.

Like I said though, it would fit except those collars are machined just slightly too thick to fit in the mounting spots. The bolt will go through the collars like they are meant to, but like I said, the collars are just a bit too thick. Not only that, there was still the zip ties around the collar so they would not fall out as well. I will call tomorrow and confirm the part number with the shock, but as far as I can tell, its the real deal. Here is the link of the auction.

I don't think I'd go through the effort of sending it back to FOX...it will probably get lost....or take two months to get it back. If it were me I'd file/grind the spacer down yourself and put it in....or pry the mount on the frame open a little(a bolt with two nuts inside the mount). The surface doesn't have to be perfectly flat, since the end mounts have a self-aligning bearing feature to them...and will not result in any binding.

My OEM shock needed a little persuation to go in when I sent it out for a revalving....though not 1/16th...I think the OE mount collapses a little when its assembled.

If anything I was going to send the collars back, but when i called they didnt want to do anything about it so ill probably end up taking them to a local machine shop and just have them trimmed down a bit. I would rather do that than file them. It wont cost too much and for what i paid for the shock it doesnt bother me too much. It was the correct shock and was not an ebay mishap, just sounds like something was messed up from the factory.
