Problems with CDI
Hi,
The strangest thing. On Sunday afternoon I visited one of my mates. I drove there with the bike No problem. In the evening when I wanted to go home she wouldn't start. I must mention that we did fix a puncture on the rear tire but we didn't even take it of for that.
Anyway yesterday I checked, no spark.( I even tried other spark plugs) I did all the checks the show in the manual and everything works but the only thing I can't test is the CDI (that black box that control the spark). It's very expensive so I'd like to test it in some way before I waste a lot of money on a new one.My local dealer says I must test it on another bike (which I don't have).
Does any one know of a easy way to test the CDI or of another Honda bike that uses the same CDI unit?
PS The CDI unit costs almost half of what I payed for the bike!!!!)

Apparently theres no people around here that know much about CDIs so I decided to venture down that dark road by myself. Since my occupation is electronic engineering this should be quite simple...
This is what I have so far:
I have discovered by accident (long story) that if I heat up my CDI with a hairdryer(not very scientific), the bike starts and runs fine. When it stands in the cold for a while it doesn't want to start.
From my experience with electronic devices that usually means a connector is loose or you have a solder joint thats cracked or loose.
The only problem is that the whole unit is in epoxy so I can't get to the electronics. Fortunately I've found a epoxy solvent. You have to leave it in there quite a while. So it will take a couple of days.
If I manage to find the problem I'll post something.
At the price for a new one I don't have anything to loose
In the event of me not getting this fixed, does anyone one know of a 2nd hand 95 F3 CDIfor sale?
