please help,,97 engine on a 96 frame?

Unhappy please help,,97 engine on a 96 frame?

hey guys,,im new here, and was wondering if a 97 cbr f3 engine will plug n play on a 96 cbr f3 frame...or is there any type of mods id have to do to make it run correct? will all the 96 wires work? im lost cant find much on this topic...thanks guys

I'm pretty sure they will work with no problems/mods. I have a '95 frame with a '98 engine in it now. Swapped wiring harness from another '95 (to get rid of ghetto wiring) and it worked fine.

As far as i can tell you only should have to keep the ignition module for the 97 engine Everything else should be kosher. The ignition curves were changed a bit for the 97-98 model as there was some differences between the earlier F3 and the 97-98 models... as far I have seen/read. If anyone has a different perspective or further knowledge on this I too would like to hear it because I am in the process of putting 98 model into a 96 frame as well. I am using the original harness for the 98 though so I won't have issues like the OP is possibly going to deal with.

well i went ahead and bought the engine,,not really knowing,,,call the honda shop and those guys there had no clue,,lol so i called a place called RANCHO MOTORCYCLE DISMANTLING and he said all of the f3 models are all plung n play,,no mods,,, and just like you soonerbillz,,with the extra hp in the 97 motor i felt like id have to change the ecu with the 97 harnest,,,ill let you guys know if it works or not when i get it in.but as far as i can see it all looks the same...and thanks for the replys.

Im running a 98 ucu on my 96 all it did was change the curve.
