I was wondering if someone can help tell me the way the petcock works, like which way is up and down and this might sound dumb but what is it for and do? Thank you.

 

Which bike year and size? I have found that my 91 CBR 600 is different from my 94 CBR 1000.

thats the fuel switch the dealership called it a petcock, and its a 96 f3 600

 

"Petcock" is just the fancy word for fuel valve. Like where you turn off/on/res. I have a '95 F3 and when the arrow points up it's RES and when it's pointing straight to the front it's OFF and down to the ground it's ON. I'm pretty sure yours is the same because i doubt they'd change that much lol. If all else fails, pour out all the gas in your tank and put about a quart+/- of gas back in and switch it to either and see which runs.(Try up because that -should- be res)
