"Petcock" is just the fancy word for fuel valve. Like where you turn off/on/res. I have a '95 F3 and when the arrow points up it's RES and when it's pointing straight to the front it's OFF and down to the ground it's ON. I'm pretty sure yours is the same because i doubt they'd change that much lol. 
If all else fails, pour out all the gas in your tank and put about a quart+/- of gas back in and switch it to either and see which runs.(Try up because that -should- be res)
