Question Overheating at idle

HI I'm new to the forum and was wondring if anyone can help me with an overheating problem?
I have a 95 f3 which overheats at idle, it will slowly get hotter until the coolent spills out the overflow on the expansion tank! I have removed the thermostat and tested it opens and closes ok, theirs plenty of antifreeze, and the fan kicks in about 1/2 way on the temp gauge, but the temp gauge goes no higher than inbetween 1/2 and 3/4!

any help would be geat!

Pete

1.1 kg/cm3 (16lbs or 108kpa) bring the cap with you, they can match it up. that will save you the extra trip when they give you the wrong one.
