Default OIL??

I just replaced my stator cover, and i did loose some oil in the process. the guy i bought it from said he just had oil changed, but im not sure if he was just tryin to sound good, but i was thinking about just doing an oil change. what oil should i go with, i have heard so many different opinions on oil, so im not sure what to go with. also how hard is the filter to change? would it be ok to just add oil to what is in there now since the previous owner said it was just changed? and if so, is it ok to mix different oils? and any recomendations on what type of oil filter to go with if i do a complete change? thanks again for helping me out!!

You have to take off the lower fairing panels to get to the oil filter & to access the drain plug, you need a filter tool to loosen the filter. Not sure what type of oils you guys have there. But make sure its specifically for motorcycles, always go for quality. You can top up your oil wth a good quality bike oil, you can mix em just to top it up.
Pull out the dip stick & not only to check out the level but have alook at the oil on it, if its really dark & smells "off" (petrol type smell), the guy was full off B.S. its better to replace it anyway, its cheap insurance and even with filter should not set you back much. To check your oil level, turn the motor on for a few minutes to let it warm up a tad. Turn off your bike, put it on the centre stand (if you have one ) take out the dip stick, wipe it, put it back in , but don't screw it down, you check the level by resting the the dip plug on the top of the filler hole, then you check it a couple of times like that (to be sure to be sure.)

As you're about to find out, oil and filters are a hot topic here on the forum. I'd highly recommend looking at this site. This guy did a lot of research about the subject and puts it in easy to understand terms. It'll give you a better understanding of what make different types of oil better than others, especially for your motorcycle. On another page he talks about filters as well.

I agree with pacemaker, go ahead and change the oil, it's cheep insurance and good peace of mind. As for doing the oil and filter change your self, it's well worth doing. It's easy on the F3 and you'll get to know your bike just a little bit better. Good luck and have fun.

Edited for spelling.
