Default Newcomer!!

Hi guys, my name is Lewis I just picked up my first bike last thursday. 95 F3, like most of you guys im in love haha. Here are some pictures of the bike. On a side note, I was riding today and all the sudden the bike felt like it was running out of gas, after some research I found dirts write up on the fuel pump contacts. Im hoping that isnt it. Im gonna try and take the tank off and clean the vent as ive heard those clog alot. If these are not the problem where should i go next? Im sure the carbs need to be cleaned but i cant imagine they would just die like that. If they were bad it seems like I would be able to tell that they were getting dirty. It has died twice on me, the first time I took the gas cap off and after a few attempts it started up and ran for about 10 miles then died again. Thats what makes me think it is the vent, but I have no idea. Any advise is appreciated!!

nice bike for sure.

I'm not the guy to answer your question, but looking at your pic it looks like your petcock is turned 1/2 on and 1/2 off position.

Nah ill just replace it haha. It makes a bunch of noise and I have no idea how old it is so im just gonna get a chain and sprocket kit.

I worked alittle on the bike today, took the tank off, from what i can tell neither of the two breather lines are clogged. And I took the fuel pump out and tried starting the bike and the contacts were good and the pump was functioning as it should. I cleaned the lines from the fuel filter and pump (they werent clogged) I sprayed carb cleaner into the carbs hoping it would maybee free something up (still wont run). The only way I can get it to run is if I have the choke all the way open and even at that it dies as soon as I give it any kind of throttle. Could I have a vacuum leak? Do I just need to have my carbs cleaned? Im lost lol

It running with full choke only sounds to me like the idle circuit in your carbs are clogged. Take em apart and make sure ALL the jets are clean. Its pretty easy

Air leaks can make this effect too. Make sure that all the carb insulator bands are tight, o-rings in good shape, and intake hoses are correctly connected according to the diagram on the air box. Also make sure the solenoid valve on the back side of the air box is working.

BIKE FIXED!!! Verdict- Fried fuel pump, bad contacts, or maybee a combination of the two?? Either way, it was intermittent and decided when it wanted to quit haha. I just bypassed the pump and gravity fed the fuel to the carbs and everything is good.

word of advice, last year i took the pump off my bike and didn't put it back on (thought the f2 didnt have one so i didnt need one, and i heard lots of problems from the fuel pump)

2 months later after some heavy riding, i lost power around 55mph 5th gear, and it bogged down as a result from the bike being flooded. i suspected many other things first (including replacing all plugs)

in the end it was the fuel pump, which regulates fuel.
