I am a new owner of a 97 CBR 600 F3. This bike was given to me by a friend who bought it a couple years ago. The bike is in pretty sad shape. It was stripped and used for a stunt bike I believe, at least that is what my friend was planning to use it for. When he bought it the tank was locked with no key, and it had no battery so we didnt know if it ran. A couple years later he didnt want to put the money into it so he passed it on to me. I removed the gas tank, hooked up a battery charger to the +/- leads and sprayed some starter fluid in the carbs. Started up and sounds pretty good.

As you can see it is missing a whole bunch of bits and pieces. I would like to make this road worthy again. My first problem is that it was purchased with no title. Without that it would probably not be worth restoring. My first question on the boards is this. Has anyone used one of the many online title searches and had a successful experience with it. So far I know what state it has a title history in so I can for $350ish file a court motion to get the dmv give me a title. But I would rather just find out who last had the title and ask them to sign it over.

Does this seem like a worthy investment, or am I better off selling for parts/ stunt bike and buying something with a title and blinkers ?

I think I'd be more inclined to sell it for parts and purchase something more streetable. A stunted bike has most likely been ridden hard. From the looks of your picture, it's going to take some effort to get it back on the street, especially if you have to make it pass any type of inspection.

I never understood how things get sold without titles. Just my first thought. Don't pay attention to me.

I don't know why anyone would sell or buy without a title either. It's not something I would do. But since the bike was free I figured I would pursue it.

I can't fault you there and I would have done the same. There is certainly money to be made selling the parts, as well as a doaner bike.

I just went through a title issue. The best way to go about it is get a bonded title. The DMV has the paperwork, it should cost you about $250-$350, but you get the title now and you can register it then. As long as the previous owner doesn't protest the filing, the bike is legally yours in 1yr. Easy stuff. Good luck.

Hello Honda owners, my name is Chris and I'm here to learn. I'm a diesel mechanic by trade, but this bike has interested me for a yr now. Moral of the story, I ditch my 66 bagged VW Bug, for a 2001 Honda CBR 929RR. This bike is awesome, I finally got it out of storage for a yr due to a nasty, nasty, nasty divorce. Anyway, the bike just got an oil change, rectifier, stator, and she is up and running now. Just a quick not, don't let a drunk guy attempt to jump your bike with huge jumper cable....it will fry components. So, what I would like to learn, I probably need to go in to the tranny and do some clutch changes...when I'm hitting it hard, she won't shift all the way in to gear...maybe its me but I do it everytime. Thanks for any advise and I hope to talk with a lot of smart motorcyclest.
