Default new to bike, few easy questions

i have a few hopefully easy questions for you guys/gals so ill get right to it, im new to this bike, runs good but have a few concerns.

first off when in traffic the temp gauge climbs pretty rapidly, fan does come on but is it normal for the temp to hover just over halfway? there is a screw in the temp gauge and my needle sits just above it, im in oregon too so the outside temp is in the 70's.

second question, I believe my CCT is going out, on a cold start it sounds like a diesel until it warms a little then its ok, usually about 10-20 seconds, however i hear a buzzing while on the throttle at any speed above 20ish mph in any gear, it goes away when i let off, is this sound also the CCT? its the stock cct as well so i know they suck, can i tighten it manually to test for the noise?

Third question is for the unmodded bikes, what revs are you getting at 60mph? im not sure if my sprokets are changed or not but my speedo is off by 10 at least and im cruising in traffic at about 6.5 to 7k, normal?

sorry for the long post and thanks for the replies in advance.

my temp gauge does that as well especially in stop and go traffic, with your temp gauge you said a screw was in it? or ar you talkin about the peg the needle normally sits on, and a good way to tell if your cct is goin bad is the sound of BB's rattling, and even with stock sprockets, my f3 was about 10mph high, so in a 25mph zone i would be going 35mph on my speed, and for the revs, i havent rode mine since last season, and its still a bit too chilly here for my liking up here in northern PA, much prefer my Georgia weather

Rattling bbs is a good way to describe it, that's exactly what it sound like, is it going to damage the engine if I ride it in its current state? It's not too loud and seems to ride fine, the screw I'm talking about is pretty much dead center in the gauge, looks like its just holding the face in and the setup together, definitely a normal screw, I have a 96 if that matters, I decided to count my sprocket teeth last night and I'm 14 in front 43 in the back, stock?

I believe stock is 15/43 for 95-98 F3's.

Check out www.gearingcommander.com to play with the possible combinations.

Yes MadHattr059 is right, 15/43 is stock, so you're down 1 tooth in the front. The change will make your speedometer indicate that you're going faster than you really are, but the effect is progressive. As an example, if it indicates you are going 80 and with a GPS your true speed is 70, then at a 40 mph indicated speed, you'd actually be going 35, not 30. It's proportional, it's not 10 mph across the entire range. That also means that if it says you're going 160 (on a track naturally), you're really only going 140.

As for the CCT, it seems that your original OEM one lasted 17 years. It sounds like a pretty reliable part to me.

yeah thats def good, i replaced mine 2 years ago with an oem cct, and im runnin a 14/43 sprocket setup however im also using an f4i gauge cluster, and im -1 mph at 100 mph, i was speed clocked by one of my local state troopers with their radar gun, i asked on of the local private air fields if i could use their strip for a speed test, and had to find a generous trooper in the area willing to clock me. turns out at 60mph on my gauge im doin 59.7mph, and at 100 im doin 99.

Good to know, since the bike has gone so long on the original cct you guys think I should bother with the ape manual tensioner? It is slightly cheaper but is there a downside to them?

The OEM CCT is $37 here. I think the APE is more than that.

The down side is you don't have to adjust them, and there is no guessing if you have it right. It's also less expensive. Oh right, you said downside...
