Default Need help- starter not working

Hi, looking for some help with an issue I'm having with my 98 CBR600.

the bike was just in for service, carbs sync'd, and it ran great.
Now all of a sudden it wont start.
The starter will crank once, then nothing.....
I replaced the starter, replaced the R/R and harness because the connector was more than a little crispy, checked the starter solenoid , and jumped it out, all to no avail.
checked the connections on the cluster, and also the ignition module and everything looks good there.
Its a new battery and I've even had it on a jump box while trying to start it.

Has any one experienced this or have any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

What happens if you take either the new or old starter free from the engine and hit it with jumper cables?

the starters will spin.
When it’s in the bike it will crank “ chunk” and then nothing. No clicking from the relay like battery is weak. And after I let off the start button, after the one crank, I can hear the starter kind of wind down.

this was happening with the old starter, and happened after I put the new one in, then it worked all of a sudden for a couple weeks, and now it’s happening again.

driving me mad frankly….

the bike has 15k miles on it and ran perfectly, when it was running.

With the bike in a higher gear, can push the bike and hear the engine turning over or does is the rear wheel lock up?

Trying to determine if it is electrical or mechanical.

Haven’t tried yet, i had it in gear pushing it with the clutch in then letting it out to try and get the starter to a different position, but thinking about it I’m not sure if that would even work. I think the starter on the bike has some sort of one way clutch…. It’s not like an automotive bendix type if you know what I mean.

the bike was running, so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the engine internals

Check the ground connections there are two one on the right side of the frame under the seat right anbove the right passenger footrest in front of the regulator rectifier and fuel cut off relay. The other on the top left side of the radiator near the connection. May be the regulator/rectifier. Put in a Caltric replacement and now no issues.

Default Found issue

Figured out what the problem was…..

ENGINE IS HYDROLOCKED😢😢😢

pulled the dipstick and nothing but gas.
My guess is that one of the carbs has a stuck float, allowing fuel to leak into the cylinder.

super mad about this, but it is what it is. I could pull the plugs and free it up, but at this point I don’t know if there is any damage to the engine so Monday I’m taking it to my mechanic.

I’ll update with the findings.
wish me luck!!!
